Haloween Cayman Style ……….

Anyone for Brunch ?

Everyone seems to enjoy an excuse to don their best summer clobber and live it up Vegas style, and this is no exception when it comes to the islands Sunday Brunch scene.  With so many restaurants offering great deals on their champagne brunch, where is the best place to go?

The Westin offers ocean side dinning (some fans or A/C would be useful) at the great price of just CI$ 45 per person including gratuity with a range of delicious food from omelettes through traditional Sunday roast with the option of some excellent sea food thrown in as well.   I believe that the Ritz has just recently increased their brunch to $110; it doesn’t offer beach side dining but does have excellent Beef Wellington on the menu plus a few fancy extras the Westin doesn’t offer.  LUCA is my personal recommendation with a fanciful range of food options catering for the masses and a great poolside atmosphere set within the high-end Caribbean club!  Mezza is also great and the bubbles are thick and plentiful with à la carte brunch options you select from the regular menu. Another option if you want to try to avoid the Sunday mayhem (and Monday morning blues) is to try Agua’s Saturday brunch, specializing in seafood (the oysters are awesome) or kick back and sip away on some Bellini’s at Abacus in Camana Bay.

Wherever your choice, a great time is guaranteed and typically has the same end result ……… drunkenness with friends and belly full of food (word of advice – try to avoid champagne boat races).  The only thing remaining is to decide where to continue next for your post brunch session (like we really need to continue partying for the remainder of the day??) your choice of watering holes is as per your choice of brunch locations….. Seemingly endless.  Calico Jacks, Royal Palms, Billy Bones, Fidel Murphy’s to name but a few.  I try to avoid Billy Bones these days because one thing is guaranteed – too many shots, beer pong and ending up at Coconut Joes on the way home for more food and a Beerguarita or two………. in other words, a comatose Monday morning at work, hiding under the desk!!

Where is your favourite Brunch? Have your say…………

Changs is here!

So, Only in Cayman got a privy sneak peek at the latest restaurant/bar to hit the island.  Changs is nestled in the Treasure Island complex, taking over the location of the recent Home restaurant, which was previously Bed restaurant/Bar and is yet another venture from Markus and Neil of Decker’s, Prime and Abacus fame. If anyone can make this location work then these guys are bound to!  First impressions of the decor, ambience and menu listing are outstanding.  The bar is relaxing, the tables intimate and plentiful all this makes for a good night.

The Chinese style restaurant/ bar was formulated after the popular American chain PF Changs and is famous for its simple but delicious Chinese style food.  Changs has no affiliation to the chain of US restaurants but one of the chefs has actually been brought over from PF Changs in the U.S.  Prices are very reasonable and the menu is like nothing else on Island, with hot chilli soups, fresh dim sum, salmon in ginger, and Kung Pao chicken, we can’t wait to get our first taste.

Changs open its doors this coming Monday!
